Youth Apprenticeship Grant: CPCA

The Youth Apprenticeship Grant, delivered by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, is designed to support SMEs to recruit young apprentices aged 16–21. The programme aims to increase apprenticeship opportunities, helping businesses invest in future talent while addressing local skills shortages.

Eligible small and medium-sized enterprises that have not recruited an apprentice in the previous 12 months can access financial support to offset the costs of hiring and training. The Combined Authority provides £2,000 per apprentice, alongside an additional £1,000 national government grant, with further local enhancements available in some areas.

For employers based in Fenland or Peterborough, an additional £2,000 uplift may be available, bringing the total support to up to £5,000 per apprentice. This enhanced funding is intended to encourage greater uptake in areas where additional economic support is required.

Beyond financial support, the programme offers practical guidance to employers, including assistance with the application process, accessing levy transfer funding, and navigating apprenticeship delivery. This ensures businesses have the support needed to successfully recruit and retain apprentices throughout their training.

The grant is paid as a one-off contribution once the apprentice has started their programme and met initial requirements, helping to reduce upfront recruitment barriers.

Applications are open on an ongoing basis, subject to eligibility and available funding, making this a flexible opportunity for SMEs to plan recruitment aligned with business needs.
