Organisations looking to support the transition to electric vehicles can benefit from the Workplace Charging Scheme, a Government grant designed to reduce the cost of installing EV charging infrastructure at workplaces across the UK.
The scheme provides financial support towards the purchase and installation of electric vehicle chargepoints, helping businesses and other eligible organisations prepare for increasing demand for EV charging. Grants can cover up to 75% of eligible installation and equipment costs, with funding available of up to £500 per chargepoint socket. Applicants can claim support for up to 40 sockets across their sites, making the programme suitable for both smaller installations and larger workplace charging projects.
The scheme is open to a wide range of organisations, including businesses, charities, public sector bodies and small accommodation providers. The funding can help organisations improve facilities for employees, company vehicles, customers and visitors while supporting wider sustainability and net-zero objectives.
Recent changes have increased the level of support available. Since April 2026, the maximum grant contribution has risen from £350 to £500 per socket, making the scheme more attractive for organisations considering investment in charging infrastructure. The programme has also been extended for a final year, providing businesses with additional time to plan and deliver projects.
Installing workplace chargepoints can offer a range of benefits, including supporting staff who drive electric vehicles, preparing for future fleet electrification, improving environmental credentials and helping organisations meet sustainability targets. As EV adoption continues to grow, access to charging infrastructure is becoming an increasingly important consideration for employers.
The Workplace Charging Scheme is currently scheduled to close on 31 March 2027. Organisations considering EV charging projects are encouraged to review their requirements and explore the available funding while the programme remains open.
