Wage Subsidy Scheme: Sheffield

The Wage Subsidy Scheme is a new 12-week wage subsidy designed to help local small and medium-sized businesses and charities in Sheffield create jobs for economically inactive young people aged 16–30.

Delivered through the Pathways to Work programme, Opportunity Sheffield will support eligible employers at every stage – from checking eligibility and creating suitable vacancies, to identifying motivated candidates who are ready to work. Employers can receive between approximately £3,171 and £5,128 per placement, depending on the age of the young person recruited.

The scheme is open to registered businesses and charities based in South Yorkshire with fewer than 100 employees. Funded roles must be new positions, expected to last at least six months, and can be offered for 16–35 hours per week, paid at or above the National Minimum Wage. Employers may recruit up to five placements.

In addition to the wage subsidy, Opportunity Sheffield can help identify funded training and employability support to help new recruits develop skills, confidence and long-term career prospects.

This scheme offers local organisations a valuable opportunity to grow their workforce, reduce recruitment costs, and make a positive contribution to youth employment in Sheffield.
