The Youth Jobs Grant is a new Government scheme designed to help employers recruit and train young people aged 18 to 24 who have been unemployed and claiming Universal Credit for at least six months. Employers can receive up to £3,000 per eligible job outcome, providing valuable financial support while helping young people gain meaningful work experience and progress towards sustained employment.
Open to employers of all sizes and sectors across Great Britain, the programme aims to create up to 60,000 job opportunities over the next three years. The grant is intended to encourage additional recruitment rather than replace existing hiring plans, helping businesses grow their workforce while supporting young people facing barriers to employment.
Funding is paid in stages once employment and earnings have been verified. Eligible employers will receive an initial payment followed by a second payment after the young person has remained in employment and met the programme requirements. Employers must be actively trading with a minimum trading history of six months and comply with the scheme’s eligibility criteria and terms and conditions.
The application process starts with a one-off employer registration. Once approved, employers can submit vacancies through the scheme without needing to reapply for every role. Applications are assessed by the Department for Work and Pensions, with decisions typically provided within 10 working days.
