Supporting Grassroots Music

The Supporting Grassroots Music programme is a targeted funding strand within Arts Council England’s Project Grants, designed to strengthen and sustain the grassroots music sector across England. The fund provides National Lottery investment to organisations that play a vital role in supporting early-stage musicians and the wider live music ecosystem.

Who can apply:
Eligible applicants include not-for-profit and community-focused organisations such as grassroots live and electronic music venues, music festivals, promoters, rehearsal spaces, recording studios, and sector-support organisations working within grassroots music.

Funding available:
Grants typically range from £1,000 to £40,000 per project. Projects can run for up to three years, allowing organisations to plan, test ideas, and build longer-term sustainability.

What the funding supports:
Funded activity should strengthen the grassroots music ecology and expand opportunities for artists and music professionals to develop sustainable careers and reach new audiences. This may include artist and talent development, audience development, live music programming, touring networks, infrastructure improvements, and testing new ways of working.

Key requirements:
Applicants are normally expected to provide at least 10% match funding, which can be a combination of cash and in-kind support. Applications are assessed through regular rolling deadlines, with projects considered in monthly rounds.

2026 deadlines: 1st March & 29 March
