Social Inequity Grants

Not for profit organisations working towards a just and democratic society and to redress political and social injustices can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £5,000. The funding is available to causes outside the mainstream that are unlikely to receive funding from other sources.

The charity runs three funding programmes:

  • Yorkshire. Trustees give priority to applicants working in the Yorkshire region. The applicant organisation does not need not be based in the region but the project itself must directly benefit the Yorkshire community.
  • Southern Africa, particularly Zimbabwe.
  • Projects that have applied to the Andrew Wainwright Reform Trust .

Organisations applying for grants from the Scurrah Wainwright Charity do not necessarily have to be registered as charities. However, their work must align with the Charity Commission’s definition of charitable purposes and demonstrate public benefit and their income / expenditure can not exceed £250,000 per year.

The application process consists of two stages. In the first instance, applicants are required to complete and submit an preliminary registration form.
