NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA)

The NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) is a national programme that helps proven healthcare innovations achieve widespread adoption across the NHS and wider health and care system. Funded by NHS England and delivered by UCLPartners, the programme supports innovators from healthcare, industry, academia and social enterprise who are developing solutions that improve patient outcomes, support NHS staff and strengthen services.

Successful applicants join a three-year fellowship designed to accelerate the adoption and scaling of evidence-based innovations. The programme provides tailored support through three core pillars: Access, Learn and Connect. Fellows benefit from introductions to NHS leaders, commissioners, policymakers and healthcare organisations, helping them navigate complex adoption pathways and reach key decision-makers.

Participants receive expert mentoring, structured learning, peer-to-peer support and guidance on areas such as implementation planning, evidence generation, commercial strategy, leadership development and stakeholder engagement. The programme is designed to help innovators overcome barriers to adoption and build the skills, knowledge and relationships needed to scale successfully across the healthcare system.

The NIA also provides access to a well-established network of innovators, alumni, healthcare partners and national organisations, creating opportunities for collaboration, shared learning and increased visibility. Innovations supported by the programme have already delivered significant benefits across the NHS, demonstrating its role as a leading accelerator for health and care innovation in England.
