International Fast Track Internship Programme

The University of Sheffield’s International Fast Track Internship Programme offers small and medium-sized organisations a £1,000 grant to host a part-time internship for an international student. The opportunity is particularly relevant to SMEs looking to explore new international markets, strengthen their overseas presence or bring additional international insight into their business.

Eligible organisations include UK companies, SMEs, sole traders, partnerships, not-for-profit organisations and charities, ideally based in Sheffield and the surrounding area. Internships must provide at least 70 hours of work, although employers can extend the placement by funding any additional hours themselves. Businesses can also apply to host more than one intern.

The programme could be particularly valuable for SMEs considering export or international expansion. International students can bring native market intelligence, linguistic skills and cultural awareness, helping businesses better understand consumer behaviour, competitors and regulatory landscapes in target markets. The programme can also provide a cost-effective way to test potential new markets and identify future graduate talent.

Students will come through the University’s International Student Career Fast Track Scheme. Employers will be responsible for placing successful interns on their payroll and completing appropriate right-to-work checks.

Funding is limited and applications will be assessed competitively. Priority will be given to well-defined projects with clear milestones and outcomes that support the student’s professional development.

Applications must be submitted by 12 noon on Friday 18 December 2026, with internships completed by 30 July 2027.
