Global Business Innovation Programme: SXSW, USA

Innovate UK’s Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP) is offering ambitious UK creative industries businesses the opportunity to expand into international markets through a dedicated programme linked to South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. The initiative is designed to support innovative companies developing products, platforms and technologies within the film and television, advertising and marketing technology, and music, visual and performing arts sectors.

The programme is aimed at high-growth businesses with clear international ambitions, scalable business models, demonstrated market traction and investor readiness. Applicants should also be able to show previous investment or a proven ability to attract funding, alongside strong alignment with the innovation and partnership opportunities available through SXSW.

Successful applicants will participate in a comprehensive three-phase programme lasting between nine and twelve months. The first phase includes a two-day preparation workshop covering market opportunities, cultural insights, intellectual property protection and support to strengthen value propositions. Participants will then visit Austin to take part in pre-arranged matchmaking events, meetings with potential partners, customers, investors and research organisations. Following the visit, businesses will receive tailored one-to-one support from an Innovate UK Innovation and Growth Specialist to help maximise commercial opportunities and develop a plan for international growth.

The programme provides support with a gross cash equivalent value of up to £10,000, with Innovate UK funding flights, accommodation, conference fees and in-market travel for successful applicants. Participants are expected to engage fully throughout the programme and provide feedback for up to two years after completion.

This is a valuable opportunity for creative technology businesses seeking international partnerships, investment opportunities and entry into the US market.
