A strong digital presence can be transformative for small charities, helping them reach wider audiences, raise funds, and deliver greater impact. However, accessing funding for digital development is often difficult. The Fat Beehive Foundation was created to address this challenge by providing targeted financial support to small charities seeking to improve their digital capabilities.
The Foundation offers small grants of up to £2,500 to UK-based charities with an annual turnover of less than £1 million. These grants are designed to support a broad range of digital projects, including building or redeveloping websites, creating online resources, and improving digital accessibility. The overarching aim is to help charities become more visible, effective, and sustainable through better use of digital tools.
The application process begins with an eligibility quiz, allowing charities to quickly determine whether they meet the funding criteria. Eligible organisations can then apply online. Grants are awarded twice a year, with trustee meetings held in April and October. Successful applicants are notified shortly after these meetings, and all key dates and application guidance are available on the Foundation’s Apply page.
Due to limited funding, the Foundation can only support a certain number of projects each year. Trustees give particular priority to organisations that are traditionally harder to fund, including those working with prisoners, refugees, and disadvantaged young people. By focusing on these groups, the Fat Beehive Foundation aims to ensure that digital funding reaches charities where it can make the greatest difference, bridging a critical funding gap and enabling meaningful social impact.
