The Depot Charging Scheme is a major government initiative designed to accelerate the adoption of zero‑emission heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), vans and coaches by supporting fleet operators to install the necessary charging infrastructure at their depots. Building on a successful 2025/26 pilot, the scheme will deliver £170 million of multi‑year funding from April 2026 to 2030, helping organisations transition to battery‑electric commercial fleets.
The first application window runs from 25 March 2026 to 30 June 2026, or until funding is fully allocated. Applications are assessed on a first‑come, first‑served basis. This phase will fund 70% of chargepoint and civil installation costs, up to a maximum of £1 million per organisation, across any number of depot sites. Projects funded in this round must be completed by 31 March 2027.
A second application window opens 28 October 2026 to 29 January 2027 for projects beginning in April 2027 and delivered by 31 March 2028. Grant rates for this later phase will be confirmed in due course.
To be eligible, applicants must operate at least one battery‑electric van, HGV or coach (either currently or planned), be registered and operating in the UK for at least one year, and own or lease one or more UK depot sites. Organisations must use funding solely within the UK and ensure the infrastructure primarily serves commercial vehicles. Additional requirements include senior leader approval, agreement to monitoring and evaluation, no duplication of government funding, and landlord consent for building‑related works.
Successful applicants will use the grant to install depot‑based charging infrastructure by the specified deadlines, supporting a transition to cleaner, zero‑emission transport
