A UK-focused international grants programme delivered by the British Council in partnership with Speaking Volumes, designed to support small literature and arts organisations in developing ambitious cross-border creative collaborations. The programme prioritises organisations that are diverse-led and/or work with underrepresented voices, particularly those with limited or no previous international experience. Its aim is to help these organisations build global connections, develop meaningful partnerships and gain the confidence and skills required to deliver impactful international projects.
In 2026, the programme offers five grants of £7,000 to support literature-led projects created in partnership with an organisation in one of the British Council’s designated eligible countries. Projects can include a wide range of activity, such as collaborative publications, translation initiatives, writer exchanges, workshops, residencies, festivals, digital storytelling, and cross-cultural creative development. Proposals must demonstrate strong artistic quality, clear plans for equitable collaboration, and meaningful engagement with diverse communities in both the UK and the partner country.
Beyond financial support, the programme provides structured guidance and mentoring from the British Council and Speaking Volumes. This professional support helps organisations strengthen their international working practices, develop sustainable relationships, and expand their long-term strategic capacity. The focus is not only on delivering a successful project but also on building lasting international confidence and expertise.
Applications for the 2026 round are open from 2 February to 27 March 2026, with information sessions available to guide prospective applicants through the process.
