This is an UK government programme providing capital funding to support the industrialisation of zero‑emission vehicle (ZEV) technologies. Its primary objective is to strengthen the UK automotive sector by enabling the transition to electric and zero‑emission vehicles, while safeguarding and creating highly skilled jobs and attracting significant private sector investment.
The fund focuses on supporting large‑scale, capital‑intensive projects that help upgrade existing manufacturing facilities, transition current production, or establish new manufacturing capability within the UK. By doing so, the ATF aims to secure the future of zero‑emission vehicle manufacturing and develop an internationally competitive electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. This includes key vehicle components and technologies that are critical to emissions reduction and long‑term industrial resilience.
A central ambition of the fund is to build a strong UK‑based manufacturing ecosystem that can compete in both high‑growth domestic and global export markets. The programme plays a strategic role in reducing emissions from transport while reinforcing the UK’s reputation as a leader in advanced automotive manufacturing and clean technologies.
The Automotive Transformation Fund is delivered in partnership by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and Innovate UK. To be eligible, applicants must be UK‑registered companies planning capital investment projects that directly support the UK automotive industry’s transition to zero‑emission technologies. Businesses must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI), which is used to assess eligibility and suitability before progressing to the next stage of the funding process.
