AISI Systemic Safety Programme

The UK Government is investing £8.5 million in research grants to improve society’s resilience to the risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI).

The grants will be awarded to projects that address systemic AI safety problems, such as deepfakes and cyberattacks, and promote its beneficial uses, such as increased productivity.

The AISI Systemic Safety Programme aims to attract proposals from a broad range of researchers and will offer around 20 exploratory or proof-of-concept grants.

Examples of proposals could include ideas on how to curb the spread of fake images and misinformation by intervening on the platforms that spread them rather than on the AI models that generate them.

The AI Safety Institute (AISI), in partnership with UK Research and Innovation and the Alan Turing Institute, will deliver the programme.
