Low Carbon Project: Sheffield

The project provides dedicated support and funding to help eligible Sheffield businesses reduce energy consumption and cut carbon emissions. The programme offers practical guidance, expert assessments and access to grants that make energy‑saving improvements more achievable.

Through this project, participating businesses can lower their energy bills, strengthen their competitiveness, increase productivity, and potentially safeguard or create jobs through reinvestment of savings. By reducing carbon emissions, organisations also improve their environmental performance and contribute to the city’s wider climate goals.

To join the programme, your business must be an SME (fewer than 250 employees and turnover under £54 million), operate from commercial premises within Sheffield, and not have received more than £315,000 in Minimal Financial Assistance within the last three years. You must also provide up to 12 months of energy bills to establish baseline usage.

Eligible businesses receive one‑to‑one support from an advisor, who will analyse energy use, identify savings opportunities and prepare an Energy Audit or bespoke recommendations report. Advisors will also assist with improvement planning, funding options and further sustainability resources. A free energy survey provides a detailed breakdown of potential carbon savings, costs and return on investment.

Depending on survey outcomes, businesses can apply for a Low Carbon Grant, which funds up to 50% of project costs (minimum £1,500, maximum £30,000). Grants over £12,500 must demonstrate substantial energy savings. Projects must deliver a net carbon reduction, have a payback period longer than one year, and be completed by December 2026. Tenants require landlord permission for building improvements.
