Own The Future is a support and development programme delivered by workers.coop to help groups across the UK create and grow worker-owned co-operatives that address real economic and social challenges, such as food, housing, care and transport. The programme is designed for groups with a clear idea who want to build a fairer, more democratic business model.
Successful applicants will take part in a one-year accelerator programme that provides structured support to turn ideas into sustainable worker co-operatives. This includes tailored training, one-to-one mentoring from experienced co-operative advisers, specialist business support, peer learning opportunities, and regular cohort sessions. Groups may also receive start-up funding of £5,000, subject to participation requirements, alongside ongoing practical guidance to support long-term success.
The programme is open to groups with a fully formed concept who are committed to establishing a worker-owned co-operative. The accelerator is scheduled to begin in March 2026. The application deadline is 31 January 2026, with shortlisting and interviews expected to take place in February. As funding and places are limited, early engagement is encouraged. This programme offers a valuable opportunity to access expert support while building a business that puts workers at the heart of decision-making.
